02 / Brush pen

Tombow

Fudenosuke · hard tip, black

A brush pen for practising the pressure changes of brush lettering before combining a hand-drawn word with digital type.

Tip: Hard brush tip
Ink colour: Black

Details & source

Brush lettering and broad-edge calligraphy use different tools and techniques. Match the pen to the script you are learning; a hard brush tip is not a metal broad-edge nib.

The considered purchase

Start with what you already own.

The free tools work without buying anything. A useful addition solves a specific problem.

02 / Pens & lettering

Choose a writing experience.

A pen can change the rhythm of a line without changing the words. Compare grip shape, weight, cap and refill system before treating appearance as the deciding feature. These selections support different tasks: outline drawing, brush lettering and everyday annotation. We have not tested them.

Nib labels are not standardized measurements across brands. Ask for a writing sample using the width and paper you intend to use.
A round fountain-pen nib does not replace a broad-edge calligraphy tool. For Arabic or other calligraphic traditions, match nib geometry and instruction to the style.
Check whether cartridges, a converter or bottled ink are needed and which are included.

A note on the collection

Clear sources. Clear expectations.

Each selection supports a particular task: planning a page, drawing a letterform or annotating text. We check the exact Amazon.com product identity and write our own buying notes. We have not tested these products and do not rank them by commission.

There are 5 verified product links in this opening collection. Colours, nib widths, cover styles and pack quantities do not become extra entries. A verified listing identifies a product; it does not establish quality, suitability or current stock.

No prices, stock levels, ratings or reviews are reproduced. Merchant product photographs are omitted because reuse permission has not been established. The studio images are original TypeMay editorial illustrations and do not depict the listed products.

Listing identities were reviewed on 5 October 2026 using available Amazon page snapshots. This is not a live stock feed. Read the seller’s current model details, delivery terms and returns before buying. See our affiliate privacy note. Every TypeMay tool and export stays free.
